9.28 JV girls soccer

The UHS JV squad took the field against visiting opponent West Chester Rustin on Wednesday evening.  It was an exciting match as two equally talented teams battled for the win in adverse weather conditions as well as surprising changes to the team lineup.  Paige Harlan stepped up for her team to play goalie in the first half after Alanna Wolfe suffered an injury from a corner kick.  Harlan and the Indians would end the first half with a 0-0 score, despite great offensive opportunities from Syd Stipa, Jenny Keglovits, and Payton Jaenisch.  Strong defensive play from game MVP Erin O'Leary helped the home team to deny Rustin a chance at the goal during the second half.  Unfortunately, the Indians walked away from the pitch without a goal and tally in the tie column of the record books with a final score of 0-0.

Unionville/Great Valley Varsity Soccer Score, 9/26/2016

Unionville Women’s Varsity Soccer went to the Main Line to take on Great Valley last night.  At the end of the first half in an evenly matched game, the score was locked at 0-0.  Unionville took over scoring 3 goals quickly in the 2nd half.  A hat trick was posted by Veronica Hineman with two of those goals unassisted.  Liz Koehler provided the assist for the third one notched.  Katie Borlie had three saves to secure fourth shutout of the season while the strong defense (Erin Garvey & Maddie Malloy) kept the Great Valley attackers at bay.

Coach Rata has been tinkering with his lineup and he seems to have found gold.   Unionville takes a 3 game winning streak into their next game this Wednesday against West Chester Rustin at home with a 7:00 PM start time.

9.26 JV girls soccer

The JV girls soccer team returned to action this week with an exciting win over Great Valley High School.  The Indians took the field with focus in their eyes and determination in their hearts and never looked back.  They maintained possession for a majority of the game with controlled passes and key switches in the point of attack.  While the score remained 0-0 at halftime, Makayla Bucci would open the floodgates with a precisely timed run off a Claire Matson through ball.  With one touch toward the goal, Bucci used her speed to beat the last defender and drill the ball in the back of the net.  Minutes later, with the help of game MVP Hannah Firment, the defense would find the feet of Matson once again who strung another ball through to Jenny Keglovits.  Keglovits's shot was blocked, but a crashing Sofia Kolliopoulos sealed the deal with the second goal.  U-fever continues Wednesday night against Rustin at home.

9.19 JV girls soccer

The Unionville JV girls soccer team lost a hard fought match to the Shanahan Eagles on Monday evening.  The team played the best possession game of the season and managed to sustain beautifully consistent combination play, but were unfortunately unable to capitalize on the many offensive chances.

Co-captains Hadley McKnight and Claire Matson joined forced with Payton Jaenish and Melanie Landry to dominate the central third of the field.  Jenny Keglovits and Erin Mazur worked hard up top while game MVP Dia Kotanidis gave both offensive and defensive sparks on the field.  Despite these efforts, Shanahan found the back of the net on a rare defensive lapse with only 30 seconds left in the game.  The team takes a game hiatus this week and returns to action with three matches next week.

9.10 JV girls soccer

The JV girls soccer team took to the field in 90 degree heat on Saturday to battle visiting Pennsbury.  The team was off to a slow start during the weekend match going down 0-2 in the first ten minutes.  The first half would end with the visitors scoring two more goals.

But Unionville demonstrated great heart in the second half as game MVP Makayla Bucci led the offensive charge.  Using her speed to beat the Pennsbury defense, she crossed to the ball to crashing forwards Syd Stipa and Jenny Keglovits.  Keglovits would fight for the loose ball in the box to put it away for the point.  Although the game ended in a 1-5 loss, the team showed improvement and resilience during the course of the game.  The Indians will rest and regroup for a rivalry match against Kennett on Monday evening.
