District 1 team tournament Thursday night 43-33. The team wrestles at
Neshaminy this weekend and has their final home match of the season next
Wednesday night.

Indians Defeat Oxford

The girls basketball team defeated Oxford 40-34 in Chesmont league play last night.  Emily Winn led the Indians with 12 points and 6 rebounds.  Cami Redfern and Janice Hauck each had 7 points.  Sydney Hughes dished out 4 assists while scoring 5 points.  Cami Redfern had 6 steals.  Janice hauck also pulled down 5 rebounds.  The Indians improved their record to 11-6 overall and 5-3 in league play.  The team travels to West Chester Rustin for a key game on Friday night.  Tip off is 7:30PM

Rustin Meet Result

The UHS Girls Swimming & Diving team lost a close meet to Rustin on Friday
night, 95-90. Every girl contributed and most had season best times.
Mackenzie Hornibrook lead the way as a triple winner, Christina Tascione
was a double winner, and Meg Musser was a single winner. Erin Polries,
Emma Werkiser, Cyndi Kline, Laura Barthold, and Erin Himes were standouts
in the meet as well. Congratulations to Cyndi Kline for her District
qualifying swim in the 100 breaststroke. The team goes into their league
meet against Sun Valley this Friday, 6-1 overall. Good luck girls!

The UHS Boys Swimming & Diving team beat Rustin on Friday night 108-77,
bringing their overall record to 5-2. Matt Drohan lead the way as a
quadruple winner, Ben Halkowski was a triple winner, Brandon Smiddy, Greg
Buckley, and Chris Barthold were double winners for the Indians. Tommy
Ferree, Luke Doherty, Dakin Bond, Jason Smiddy, and Ben Porter were
standouts in the meet. The boys will be back in the pool to compete
against Sun Valley this Friday afternoon.

Girls B-ball update: UHS 53 Garnet Valley 28

The Girls Varsity Basketall team defeated Garnet Valley 53 to 28 on Saturday night.
  
The Indians raced out to a 16-10 first quarter lead behind 10 points from Alison Lewis who finished with 15 for the night.  Janice Hauck scored 12 points while Sydney Hughes contributed 9 points for the Indians.  After building a 23-15 halftime lead, the team held Garnet Valley to one basket in the  3rd quarter  while scoring 12 points to build an insurmountable 34-17 lead.  The team improved its record to 10-6.  
  
JV Girls Basketball Report
  
The JV Girls Basketball team also defeated Garnet Valley 42-41 avenging a loss to the Jaguars during the Red Devil Christmas tournament earlier this season.   Micayla Flores scored 5 of her team leading 10 points in the fourth quarter.  Taylor Thames had 8 points.   Adrianna Weber hit 3 key foul shots late in the game for the Indians.

Wrestling team selected to District playoffs.

The wrestling team has been selected to participate in the District 1 team
wrestling tournament this Thursday at Rustin HS. First match is at 5:30
versus Upper Moreland. If they win they will wrestle WC Rustin at 7:30
that same evening.

Girls Basketball Sweeps Kennett on Senior Night

The varsity girls basketball defeated Kennett in grand fashion on Senior night 52-19.  The team  boasted a 24-6 halftime lead and never looked back.   Senior Guards Cami Redfern and Janice Hauck both connected on 4 three point shots each totaling 12 points apiece.  Alison Lewis contributed 13 points for the Indians.  Senior guard Sydney Hughes had 2 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals in addition to doing the majority of the ball handling.  Seniors Erinn Menninger, Caitlin Clark and, Corrinne Blue all played key roles in the UHS victory.  The Indians record now stands at 9-5 overall and 4-2 in Chesmont League play.
  
JV
The JV girls basketball team also defeated Kennet 43-13.  10 Indians scored as Logan Perkins led the team with 9 points. Micayla Flores and Adrianna Weber both contributed 6 points.  The JV team improved its record to 10-3.

UHS - Kennett Swim Meet Result

The Indian Girls Swimming & Diving team remains undefeated at 5-0 with
their win over Kennett 98-63 on Friday night. Junior Erin Polries and
Freshman Katie Garvey won both their individual events and Junior
Mackenzie Hornibrook won one individual event. Katie Garvey, Meg Musser,
and Katie Johnson swept the 100 freestyle event. Congratulations to the
following swimmers for their District qualifying times in their respective
events: Molly Wentz in the 50 free, Katie Garvey in the 50 free, and Laura
Barthold in the 200 Individual Medley. The girls team will be back in
action on Wednesday night against Padua.

The Unionville Boys Swimming & Diving team continued their win streak with
a 99-58 win over Kennett on Friday night. Senior Matt Drohan and Freshmen
Greg Buckley lead the way with two individual wins a piece. Sophomore Ben
Halkowski won one individual event for the Indians. The boys swept the
100 fly with Greg Buckley, Ben Porter, and Thomas Edwards taking first,
second, and third respectively. The team also swept the 200 free with
Matt Drohan, Brandon Smiddy, and Jason Smiddy taking the top three spots.
Congratulations to Greg Buckley for his District qualifying times in the
200 Individual Medley and 100 free. The boys will be back in the pool to
compete against Salesianum on Wednesay night.

The Girls Varsity basketball team defeated Octorara 44-34 last night in Chesmont League action.  The team had a balanced scoring attack lead by Alison Lewis with 10 points and Sydney Hughes, Cami Redfern and Emily Winn with 9 points each.  Cami Redfern shot 6 for 6 from the foul line and Emily Winn had 14 rebounds.   The teams record now stands at 8-5 overall and 3-2 in league play.
  
The JV girls  basketball team also defeated Octorara 34-5 with Kelly Hauck leading all scorers with 10 points.

Indoor Track and Field Updates

The Indoor Track and Field programs competed at the Chester County Indoor Championships last night. The team was led by Anne Birkenmaier, the only 1st place finisher on the night. Anne's time of 10:40.60 qualified her
for the state championship meet and with teammate Courtney Smith's run on Friday night, both girls have top 8 times in the state. Steve Yannacone was the 1st qualifier of the year on the boys side with an impressive 800
meter run of 2:01.19. Ross Kim-McManus and Christina Mapa also turned in superior performances earning two medals each.

The boys compete this Saturday at Lehigh.

Girls Basketball Update

The Girls varsity basketball team split their two games in the UHS Xmas tournament during the break.  On Wednesday, the team defeated Phoenixville 60-52 behind Alison Lewis' career high 32 points.  Alison also grabbed 8 rebounds 5 steals and had 3 assists.  Sydney Hughes contributed 11 points and 10 steals.
  
On Thursday, the team advanced to play Haverford who received a forfeit win over Frankford.  Haverford went on to defeat the Indians 50-45 and snapped the UHS 7 game winning streak.  Alison Lewis had 15 points, Janice Hauck 9 and Sydney Hughes 8 in the game.
  
The Indian's record is now 7-2 overall and 2-0 in Chesmont league play.  The team will host West Chester Rustin on Tuesday at Unionville.  
  
JV
  
The JV squad finished 1-2 in the Red Devil Tournament hosted by Avon Grove.   In game 1, the team lost to Garnet Valley and then rallied to defeat Avon Grove to advance to the tournament championship game against Bishop Shanahan, only to lose a hard fought game.  Micayla Flores scored 13 points in the Garnet Valley game, a 47-45 loss.  Kelly Hauck and Taylor Thames each added 9 points.
  
The team defeated Avon Grove 51-18 to climb out of the loser's bracket.  Sienna McGinnus had 9 points and Morgan Cassidy 8 points.
  
In the tournament final, the Indians dropped a 31-24 decision.   Kelly Hauck scored 10 points and Micayla Flores added 8 points.

Track and Field Updates

The girls indoor Track and Field competed at Ursinus last night.

Christina Mapa placed 4th in the 55 meter hurdles and qualified for the
meet of champions in late February.

The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Gretchen Mills, Olivia Young, Courtney
Smith and Anne Birkenmaier ran to the 7th fastest time in the state this
year and qualified for the Indoor State Championship meet.

Both teams compete again on January 9th.

Pennsbury Swim Meet Results

The Girls JV basketball team split its two games this week, losing to Great Valley on Tuesday.  Adrianna Weber had 7 points and Emily Mason had 6 to lead the Indians.  The team won a lop sided contest over Oxford on Thursday with Taylor Thames scoring 8 points and Micayla Flores and Morgan Cassidy with 7 apiece.  Casey Scheuer and Kelly Hauck each hit a three point shot for the Indians.  The JV team is off to a 4-1 start this season and are preparing for a one day Avon Grove Red Devil tournament on Wednesday December 28th at 9am versus Garnet Valley.

Girls Basketball Team Defeated Oxford 50-25

The Indians outscored Oxford 20-4 in the decisive 3rd quarter and expanded a 20-15 half time lead to a 40-19 lead heading into the 4th quarter.  Sophomore Alison Lewis shook off 1st half foul trouble and scored (her UHS career high) 22 points and added 9 rebounds.  Senior Janice Hauck hit 3 three point shots while scoring 11 points.   Senior Sydney Hughes contributed 6 steals, 4 assists and 3 points.   The team shot 9 for 12 from the free throw line.   10 Indian players scored in the game.  The team heads into the holiday break with a 6-1 record and now 2-0 in Chesmont league play.  
  

UHS Girls Defeats Great Valley in Chesmont Hoops Action

The Unionville Girls Basketball team knocked off Great Valley last night in the teams Chesmont League opener at home 44-39.   The team experienced a slow start in the game falling behind 20-9, early in the 2nd quarter.  The Indians cut the lead down to 23-19 by halftime thanks to a pair of threes by Janice Hauck and Sydney Hughes and 2 buckets by Chrissy Eckman.    Janice Hauck scored 11 points in the third quarter in route to a team high 20 points.  Janice also had 7 rebounds and 4 steals.  Sydney Hughes contributed 8 points and 3 assists and 3 steals.  Alison Lewis had 12 points.  The team shot 8 for 10 from the foul line in the 4th quarter.  The Indians are 5-1 overall and 1-0 in Chesmont League play.  The team travels to Oxford on Thursday night.

The JV girls basketball team is off to a 3-0 start with wins over Henderson (53-29), Shanahan (37-33) and Interboro (31-11) this past week. Micayla Flores had 20 points versus Henderson. Emily Mason contributed 12.Taylor Thames led the team with 14 points against Shanahan. Against Interboro, 7 different players had 4 or more points for the Indians : Emily Mason, Lexi Shanahan, Adrianna Weber, Casey Scheuer, Taylor Thames, Micayla Flores and Kelly Hauck.

GIRLS BASKETBALL OFF TO A 4-1 START WITH WEEKEND SWEEP OVER SHANAHAN AND INTERBORO

On Friday night, the Indians girls basketball team defeated Bishop Shanahan 54-43. The team erased an early 5-2 deficit and lead the rest of the way by as many as 12 points. Four Indian starters had 8 or more points, led by Alison Lewis with 19. Cam Redfern, Janice Hauck and Sydney Hughes had 10, 9 and 8 points respectively. Lewis also pulled down 9 rebounds. On Saturday morning, the team traveled to Interboro for an early afternoon game at 1:30pm and knocked off the upstart Bucs (who were undefeated with a 3-0 record) 48-43. The team built a 19 point lead early in the third quarter only to see it dwindle to 2 points with 3 minutes to play in the game. Sydney Hughes, Janice Hauck and Emily Winn converted key free throws to seal the win for the Indians. The team shot 15 for 19 from the foul line. The Indians defense clamped down when it had to, holding Interboro scoreless during the last 3 minutes of the game. Alison Lewis scored 17 points and Cami Redfern 8 for the Indians. The team’s record is 4-1 with a visit from Chesmont League opponent Great Valley scheduled for Tuesday night at 7:30. JV action starts at 6:00 PM.

Indoor Track Season Begins

The Indoor Track and Field season team opened their season last night at Ursinus. The boys team was led by outstanding performances from Steve Yannacone and Ross Kim-McManus. The girls 4 x 800 meter relay team
produced the only winner of the night for the Indians -- the team of Gretchen Mills, Anne Birkenmaier, Sam Collins and Courtney Smith easily ran past the 14 team field. The girls team competes next Thursday at Ursinus.

The Unionville girls basketball team defeated Henderson 40-28 on the road last night.   The team battled foul trouble all game and held Henderson to three 3rd quarter points en route to building an 8 point lead heading into the 4th quarter.   Alison Lewis had 17 points and Cami Redfern 11 points.  Janice Hauck contributed 2 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals for the Indians.

Girls Baskteball Team Split games in Lady Cougar Rotary Classic over the weekend

  The girls basketball team lost Friday afternoon's opener at Springfield to Central Bucks South 48-42.  The team played hard and never quit in trying to overcome a 7 point deficit with just over 3 minutes to play.  Trailing 43-42 with 1 minute and 24 seconds remaining, the Indians could not convert a late field goal and had to resort to fouling.  Alison Lewis contributed 15 points while Senior Co-Captain Cami Redfern netted 13.   Two Indian starters fouled out.  Central Bucks South would eventually win the Tournament, defeating Springfield 49-36.
  In the consolation game, The Indians dominated Penn Wood in a 56-17 victory.   Senior  Co-Captain Sydney Hughes led the team with 14 Points and 7 seven steals.  Sophomore Alison Lewis had 12 points.  10 Indians scored in the game including Seniors Cami Redfern and Janice Hauck who both scored 7 points.   The team shot 15-18 from the foul line.  
  Next up is a road game at Henderson on Tuesday night with JV action at 6pm followed by the Varsity game at 7:30pm.

The UHS Girls Swimming & Diving Team beat Villa Maria on Friday afternoon
110-81. The Indians had two double winners: Freshman Katie Garvey in the
100 free and 100 back and senior Emma Werkiser in the 200 Individual
Medley and 100 butterfly. District qualifiers include: McKayla Mawn in
diving, Emma Werkiser in the 100 butterfly and the 200 Individual Medley,
Cyndi Kline in the 500 freestyle, Laura Barthold in the 500 freestyle, and
Christina Tascione in the 100 breaststroke. Molly Wentz, Erin Himes, and
Katie Johnson had strong swims for the Indians as well. The girls have
their next meet this Friday afternoon against Garnet Valley.

The UHS Boys Swimming & Diving Team lost to a tough Malvern Prep team on
Friday afternoon 70-110. Freshmen Greg Buckley qualified for Districts in
his two individual events, the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, sophomore
Tommy Ferre qualified for Districts in the 100 butterfly as well as
sophomore Chris Barthold in the 500 freestyle. Ben Porter and Jason
Smiddy turned in great swims for the Indians as well. The boys are back
in action this Friday afternoon against Garnet Valley.

The football team lost in the opening round of district playoffs to
Neshaminy HS on Friday night 28 - 0. This concludes the season for the
team. Their final record was 9 wins and only 2 losses. Congratulations to
the team and their coaches on a great season!

UHS Sports: Post Season Updates

Zaina Zaki lost in the first round of state tennis singles play on Friday.

Girls Cross Country team finished second in the state at their meet on
Saturday in Hershey. The team was lead by Courtney Smith who finished
fourth.

The Field Hockey team lost in the District 1 title game on Saturday to
Owen J. Roberts by a score of 2-1. The team will play Warwick HS at West
Chester East HS on Tuesday at 5PM in the first round of state playoffs.

The Football team will begin district playoff competition this Friday
night (11/11) at UHS against Neshaminy. Game time is 7PM.
