Unionville Field Hockey

The Unionville varsity field hockey team suffered a heart breaking defeat against defending state champion Emmaus despite dominating the entire game.  Unionville out shot Emmaus 22 to 6 and earned 17 corners to Emmaus's 2. Senior goalkeeper Lizzie Gaebel played a great game as she was able to break up several plays before Emmaus could get a shot off.  Lizzie made 6 key saves in the contest.  The team played with a lot heart, and controlled the possession of the game for 85% of the contest.  The final score was 1 to 0.  Unionville should hold their heads high  as they played their hearts out and finished the season performing at a tremendously high level.  Best of luck to the senior class as many will continue their careers at the collegiate level.

Unionville Soccer Advances to District Playback Finals

The #4 Unionville Women’s Soccer (18-3) team hosted the #17 seed Quakertown in the semi-finals of the District playback on Wednesday night.   Quakertown came in hot after upsetting the #1 seed, Pennridge, earlier in the week, but nothing deterred the Unionville squad.  By the time the first half expired, Unionville took a 2-0 lead with goals by Veronica Hineman & Sam Ciccarelli.  Quakertown kept on fighting as they were able to get on the scoreboard off a corner kick making it 2-1.  Unionville struck back with a blasts from Jackie Hug and Claire Matson and our girls from Unionville walked away with a 4-2 victory.  The defensive wall that has led District One in stats all year long were driven by Erin Garvey & Lauren Bell.

Unionville plays in the finals on Saturday against the winner of Souderton & Council Rock South.  Unionville is the highest seed & will be hosting the game.   The game time has yet to be determined, but it will most likely be around 4:00 or 5:00 PM.  The winner of this game heads on to States!  Come on out and cheer them on to a big victory!

Good morning,

I know your staff is stretched with hitting all the big games.  I thought I would share with you that the UHS girls soccer story in your next publication.  I have also attached a team picture after the final regular season game.  There are a lot of Unionville parents who live in the West Chester area and would appreciate the coverage.  Thanks.

Jay

The Unionville Girls Soccer Team took on the stingy Downingtown West team last Wednesday night.  The game was a battle but the Unionville girls delivered in the clutch with a 3-1 win.  The offense was led by Jackie Hug, Sam Ciccarelli & Veronica Hineman all netting goals.  The defense led District one with fourteen shutouts and only allowed 6 goals the entire season.  The defensive front includes Erin Garvey, Lauren Bell, Lindsey Barrett & Melanie Landry.

This marks one of the most successful seasons in Unionville history as the soccer team won the Ches Mont League Title by going undefeated (13-0) and maintain an overall record of 16-2.  They enter District playoffs  ranked #4 in the extremely fierce District One.  Unionville will host the winner of the WC Rustin/Lower Merion game on Thursday, October 26th.

Unionville Girls Soccer Update

#4 seed Unionville took on #13 West Chester Rustin last night in the 2nd round of District One soccer playoffs.  After a sluggish start, Unionville touched the back of the net with an Erin Garvey pass to Veronica Hineman goal to open up the scoring.  Unionville was far from done.  Alex Wilson blistered a corner kick to get Veronica her second goal of the game.  Not be outdone, Claire Matson hits a laser passed the Rustin goalie to make it 3-0 game.  The defense played another fantastic game keeping the Rustin offense silent and earning their 15th shutout for the season.  Unionville takes their 17-2 record into the District Quarterfinals against Neshaminy on Saturday at UHS stadium.  Keep checking your Twitter account for updates on the time of the game.
